This paper proposes the use of telenovelas as a media pedagogical apparatus for teaching History, through the pedagogy of communication. Using Lado a Lado (2012-2013) as a case study, an intervention is proposed, incorporating educommunication practices, anchored in three characteristics of the telenovela: 1) depicting historical events from the perspective of the classes most silenced by traditional historiography; 2) utilizing the historical context as part of the plot; and 3) expanding the episodes through transmedia resources. The analysis mapped four thematic categories present in the telenovela with the potential for teaching History. Following this, a methodological model for school pedagogical practices is presented, with scene recommendations and the assistance of “didactic markers” for each historical event to be discussed in the classroom.
